Rallying for Local Education

Today, Assemblyman Ray Walter (R,C,I-Amherst) attended the “Invest in Education” rally at the First Niagara Center. Walter joined fellow legislators, students, teachers, administrators and parents to rally in support of the Education Investment Tax Credit legislation, of which Walter is a co-sponsor. This legislation would expand investment in local schools without the added burden of raising local property taxes. This bill essentially gives up to a 75 percent tax credit to those who donate to local schools or scholarships.

“New York State’s future will soon be in the hands of our children. Our kids need to have access to the best education possible and I will continue to work tirelessly in Albany to make sure that happens,” said Walter. “As a legislator, these are the moments you work for, when you are able to join your community in supporting a massive effort to enact and bring about real change.”

It is estimated that nearly 10,000 people attended the rally, with representatives from Catholic Diocese of Buffalo schools, Jewish Day schools, Christian schools, Islamic schools, non-sectarian schools and the Buffalo Public Schools.
