WALTER BEGINS 3rd ANNUAL CHRISTMAS IN JULY TOY DRIVE

Assemblyman Ray Walter kicks off annual toy drive to benefit Kaleida Health’s Women and Children’s Hospital.

Today, Assemblyman Ray Walter (R,C,I-Amherst) joined a group of young patients to kick off his annual “Christmas in July” toy drive to benefit Kaleida Health’s Women and Children’s Hospital. Area residents are asked to donate new, unwrapped toys at various locations across Western New York, starting now through July 25. On Tuesday, July 29, Walter will be joined by special guests to distribute the gifts to the children.

“The ‘Christmas in July’ toy drive gives children facing serious illnesses a reason to smile and boosts their spirits,” said Walter. “Western New Yorkers are always willing to give so much to other members of the community that are in need; that generosity is what makes me proud to live here. I urge anyone who has the ability to make a contribution to donate and provide some summertime Christmas cheer to the patients at Women and Children’s Hospital.”

To help Assemblyman Walter collect toys this year, famed cowboy act Charlie and Checkers will be performing on Tuesday, July 15 at 6:30 pm at Sweet Jenny’s Ice Cream at The Mill, located at 56 E. Springs St. in Williamsville.  The duo will hold a free show as parents and their children can come, drop off a new, unwrapped toy and enjoy some ice cream and family friendly fun.

“The toy drive can only be successful if we receive support from all sections of the community,” said Walter. “I want to thank all of the small businesses that have agreed to help collect toys this year, especially my friends at Sweet Jenny’s who will be hosting our drop off party on July 15 with Charlie and Checkers.”

Supporters may drop off new, unwrapped toys at Walter’s district office located at 5555 Main Street in Williamsville. Other drop-off locations include Amherst Town Hall at 5583 Main St. in Williamsville, Airport Plaza Jewelers at 4210 Union Rd. in Cheektowaga, Buffalo Niagara Heritage Center at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Rd. in Amherst, Sweet Jenny's (The Mill) at 56 E. Springs St. in Williamsville, SPOT Coffee at 765 Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo and Dessert Deli at 6429 Transit Rd. in East Amherst.

“Our patients, their families and all of us at Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo thank Assemblyman Ray Walter for organizing this Christmas in July Toy Drive,” said Tara Young, Child Life Specialist, Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.  “We all look forward to his return visit later this summer when the toys are delivered and we enjoy the annual Christmas in July Holiday Party.  This will certainly help brighten the day for our many patients admitted here this summer and fall.”
